  • Maryland

How do I schedule a session?

You can get started by contacting me directly:

Call: (301) 578-8760

Email: gkvanderhorst@gmail.com

We’ll schedule a free phone consultation to discuss your goals and determine if we’re a good fit. Or, you can book directly via Zocdoc.

What is your session fee?

Session fees are discussed during our initial consultation. Therapy is an investment in your future. Planning how you will pay for treatment is essential. Take time to examine your resources and make plans for this investment so that you are confident that you can reach your goals. You will be asked to provide charge card information to remain on file as a guarantee of payment. Payment is due at the time of service.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be subject to a late cancellation fee.

Is online therapy effective?

Yes. Research shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. The therapeutic relationship, not the setting, is the most important factor in successful outcomes.

Do you accept insurance?

Please check with your insurance carrier to ask about your mental health benefits. This will let you determine what the insurer will reimburse you for individual or couples therapy. You will be responsible for paying for services at the time of service and then you may file a claim with your carrier for reimbursement. Visit this page for clear information about therapy fees and insurance in Maryland.

Is my information confidential?

Absolutely. I use HIPAA-compliant platforms for video sessions, forms, and communication. Your privacy is protected by law and by my professional ethics. For more details, visit the Technology and Confidentiality page.

What if I travel or move?

I can only provide therapy while you are physically located in Maryland or Washington, DC. If you plan to travel or relocate, please let me know so we can discuss continuity of care or referrals.

What if I’m not sure therapy is right for me?

That’s okay. Many clients begin therapy with uncertainty. Our initial consultation is a chance to explore your questions and see if this feels like the right fit. There’s no pressure, just a conversation.

If you didn’t find what you were looking for, I’m happy to help.
