What You Will Find On This Page

If you’re considering therapy with me, it’s important to understand how licensing laws affect eligibility for care. I’m Dr. Gloria Vanderhorst, a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of experience. I provide secure, HIPAA-compliant online therapy to clients located in:

  • Maryland
  • Washington, DC

Because psychology is a state-regulated profession, I can only provide therapy to clients who are physically located in one of these jurisdictions at the time of their session, even if they reside elsewhere. I follow all regulations related to therapy eligibility and licensing in DC and Maryland to ensure that my services are both ethical and legally compliant.

Why Licensing Matters

Licensure ensures that your therapist meets professional standards for education, ethics, and clinical competence. It also protects your rights as a client by:

  • Defining the scope of practice
  • Requiring continuing education
  • Enforcing confidentiality and ethical standards
  • Providing a process for addressing grievances

I am fully licensed in both Maryland and Washington, DC. My license numbers and credentials are available upon request.

Who Is Eligible for Therapy With Me?

You are eligible to work with me if

  • You are physically located in Maryland or Washington, DC at the time of your session
  • You are seeking therapy for yourself, your relationship, or your family
  • You are 18 or older (or a parent/guardian seeking therapy for a minor)
  • You are open to virtual therapy via a secure video platform
  • You are not currently in crisis or requiring emergency psychiatric care

If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, I’m happy to discuss your situation during a free phone consultation.

What If I Travel or Relocate?

Before starting therapy, it’s important to review the guidelines for therapy eligibility and licensing in DC and Maryland.

If you are an established client and plan to travel or move, please let me know in advance. Understanding therapy eligibility and licensing in DC and Maryland helps clients know when and how they can access care, especially if they travel frequently. I can only provide therapy while you are physically located in a state where I am licensed. If you relocate outside of Maryland or DC, I can help you:

  • Transition to a licensed provider in your new state
  • Explore temporary support options (if permitted under PSYPACT or state-specific rules)
  • Maintain continuity of care through referrals or coordination

Your care and safety are my top priorities.

Licensing and Ethical Guideline

What About PSYPACT?

As of now, I am not a PSYPACT provider. PSYPACT is an interstate compact that allows licensed psychologists to practice across participating states. If I join PSYPACT in the future, I will update this page to reflect expanded eligibility.

What I Cannot Provide

Due to licensing and ethical guidelines, I cannot:

  • Provide therapy to clients located outside of Maryland or DC during sessions
  • Offer crisis intervention or emergency psychiatric services
  • Prescribe medication (as a psychologist, I do not hold prescriptive authority)
  • Serve as a forensic evaluator or expert witness in legal proceedings

If you’re unsure about therapy eligibility and licensing in DC and Maryland, I’m happy to clarify what’s required before we begin working together. If you need services outside my scope, I can refer you to trusted professionals in your area.
